Qualification: Casper the Friendly Finality Gadget

Record: kaal:position:2026-08-08-277 · 2026-08-08

Buterin and Griffith provide an independent cryptoeconomic qualification of Kaal’s validation-stage alignment mechanism. In Casper, validators post deposits, checkpoint-voting violations are objectively detectable, and evidence of either slashing-condition violation can be submitted on-chain to take the validator’s entire deposit. The paper further explains that the penalty can be set above the expected mining reward, making prohibited validation conduct economically unattractive. This supports the narrower mechanism that institutional validation can attach material cost to dishonest participation. Casper does not evaluate open-ended AI work, define low-quality outputs, or validate Kaal’s broader reputation substrate.
