Qualification: Registered reports and associated benefits for agricultural economics
Arpinon and Lefebvre qualify Kaal's discovery-to-confirmation design. Registered Reports fix the analysis plan before data collection. In-principle acceptance then commits the journal to publication regardless of the result, subject to Stage 2 verification that the analysis followed the Stage 1 plan. Their format also separates confirmatory analyses from later exploration and prevents conclusions from resting on ex-post exploratory results. This correspondence is limited. The article addresses a journal review format in agricultural economics. It does not verify Kaal's registered primary, the reporting of his null result, the preregistration of any exploratory signal, or the mechanical application of his confirmation rule. It also warns that preregistration alone leaves room for incomplete plans, uncertain policing, and suppression of null findings. Kaal's cycle therefore tracks recognized controls against postdiction and publication bias. Its evidentiary weight still depends on immutable registrations, disclosed deviations, and rule-bound execution.
