Qualification: Causal Structure Learning: A Combinatorial Perspective

Squires and Uhler qualify Kaal's attribution boundary. They show that observational data can identify an equivalence class of causal graphs rather than a unique graph. Graphs within the class encode the same conditional independence relations even when their edge directions differ. Interventional data can refine the class. The result supports the narrower proposition that a downstream observable does not, by itself, identify the architecture that generated it. The limitation is equally important. The source concerns causal directed acyclic graphs under formal assumptions, not Kaal's institutional architecture or its registered metrics. It does not establish non-identifiability when stronger distributional assumptions, experiments, or domain restrictions identify a unique structure.
Affirmed commentary position. This record extends a source-bound scholarly claim but is not a verbatim paper claim.
