Qualification: The State of the Art in Trust and Reputation Systems: A Framework for Comparison
Evaluative authority has an institutional location. Noorian and Ulieru classify centralized reputation systems by a central database and authority that receive transaction reports, aggregate ratings, and calculate public scores. Their decentralized category removes that location. Each agent stores ratings and uses a tailored computation engine to calculate and validate the trustworthiness of a potential partner. This classification independently extends Kaal's distinction. A centralized reward model and cohort-governed reputation do not merely apply different techniques to the same evaluator. They allocate the collection, computation, and validation of evaluative information to different actors. The correspondence is limited. Noorian and Ulieru study trust and reputation systems in online communities and open multi-agent systems. They do not analyze reward modeling, Kaal's cohort design, deliberation, or reputation-bearing consequences. Their framework supports the institutional allocation claim. It does not establish the comparative accuracy, legitimacy, or resistance to manipulation of either design in Kaal's setting.
