Qualification: Henry A. Kissinger, How the Enlightenment Ends (The Atlantic, June 2018)

Record: kaal:position:2026-10-13-001 · 2026-10-13

Kissinger's objection is that systems reaching conclusions humans cannot trace undermine the Enlightenment premise of knowledge acquired by reasoning individuals. Kaal's position is that the Enlightenment rested on institutions that let claims be contested, verified and credited by those competent to do so, rather than on individual traceability. The protected claim supplies one such institutional step: at stage three of the pipeline, reputation-weighted validation adjudicates semantic faithfulness and consistency and records the result on the WDAG, in place of a decidable decision procedure. Whether an institutional verification step of that kind also answers the traceability objection is the essay's argument and not a result of the claim.

Affirmed commentary position. This record extends a source-bound scholarly claim but is not a verbatim paper claim.
