Applied to autonomous systems, the framework yields a specific diagnosis. An autonomous agent transacting across an organizational boundary faces high ex ante screening costs, high ex post verification costs, and almost no credible commitment technology. It cannot post a bond. It cannot be sued in its own name. It cannot be reliably excluded from re-entry. Its counterparty therefore either absorbs the risk, collapses the relationship into a hierarchy by refusing all external agents, or demands a human guarantor and thereby forfeits the coordination gain the agent was supposed to deliver.
