Qualification: The One-Man Show: The Effect of Joint Decision-Making on Investor Overconfidence

Record: kaal:position:2026-08-08-325 · 2026-08-08

Piehlmaier qualifies Kaal's prediction that deliberation should reduce over-approval. His preregistered experiments distinguish reflective exchange from validation. Joint financial decision-making reduced overconfidence when the interaction made unknown aspects of the decision salient. A simple stamp of approval without reflection did not provide the same corrective mechanism. This supports a narrower causal rationale. An exchange can expose missing information before a decision hardens. The study does not examine agentic validator pools, submission approval, reputation-bearing incentives, profit from approval, or Kaal's registered cohort. It measures investor overconfidence in controlled financial-decision settings. The predicted effect on false approvals therefore remains unverified until the registered study tests it directly.
